Greetings Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,
Let me begin by saying how thrilled I am to be writing to you, the volunteers who have stepped up to help our neighbors! If you received an email with this message, you are on the list! If you thought you were on that list and did not receive that email, please contact me immediately.
You are signed up to deploy to One Way Ministries, 1004 South Shady Avenue, Damascus, VA, to arrive on MONDAY, APRIL 21, 2025, and return home on SATURDAY, APRIL 26, 2025. Unless you have already let me know that you can’t be there Monday, please be there in time to get settled in the church and ready for dinner that evening. However, Butch Meredith, the site manager, has said that we can arrive any time that day, and he will put you to work – let me urge you to get there as early as you can.
Given the number of people who will be arriving and departing at different times, a bus plan wouldn’t work. So, every volunteer is responsible to get there and back on your own. THAT SAID, if anyone has room in their vehicle to take someone else, their sleeping equipment and luggage, OR if you need a ride, REPLY TO ALL from the email message and work it out between you. Carpool, caravan or get there however you can. I did some mapping, the SHORTEST way to get there (135 miles) is to take US 58 all the way over from Martinsville/Bassett. The FASTEST way (2 hours, 42 minutes) is to take US 58 west to I-77, take that north to I-81, take that west to State Hwy 91 (exit 29 between Chilhowie and Abingdon), take that south to Damascus.
Reminder: Hope Johnson has called a meeting for anyone wanting to help in the kitchen. The meeting will be at First Baptist Church of Collinsville at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 4. I will be there if anyone wants to discuss anything else to do with the deployment.
If you know ANYONE else that would like to sign up, please let them know that we still MAY be able to take them with us. But, since I have turned in our list, BGAV-DR will be working to fill out our site with other volunteers. So, have them contact me, and I’ll do what I can.
